Job Description

Overview: Film & Television Operations Manager supports the growing operations of the Trevecca Nazarene University Film & Television program to ensure smooth operation of all video and support gear and oversees all operations in programmatic facilities such as the TV Studio, Advanced Editing Suites, Media Lab/Classroom, foley room, and podcasting room. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, project management skills, strong storytelling, and leadership; as the successful applicant must manage student media assistants in daily checkout, troubleshoot and repair gear, support classroom technology and departmental conferences/events, work one-on-one to train students in the proper operation and usage of TNU gear, shoot and edit video, support in promotion of the program, and potentially teach assigned classes in Film & Television. This position reports to the Film & Television Program Director.

About Trevecca Film & Television
With more than 40 Film & Television majors, our students hone their skills in our professional production and post-production facilities. Located primarily in the Wakefield Communication Studies Building, our students have full access to four advanced editing suites, a state-of-the-art media classroom and editing lab, audio recording rooms, a film and television studio, and an equipment check-out room full of camera, lighting, and audio gear for industry-level productions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment & Personnel Management:
  • Maintain an inventory of all video production equipment, including cameras, lighting, audio, and all support gear.
  • Manage, train, and schedule equipment room student workers.
  • Coordinate installation, operation, and maintenance of new and existing equipment.
  • Develop and implement protocols for the proper handling, storage, and care of equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks to identify any issues and arrange for repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Facilities Management:
  • Maintain, schedule, and support video production facilities, such as studio, editing suites, editing classroom, studio lighting grid, and recording spaces.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of equipment and facilities to ensure availability.
  • Set up and support technical & departmental needs for events, conferences, and film festivals related to the program.
  • Coordinate gear rental and studio rental services to external clients.
  • Technical Support:
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to students and faculty using film and television equipment and spaces. The successful candidate may hold some regular hours in the evenings/weekends during heavy checkout times throughout the semester, support Communication Dept. camps, film shoots, and conferences.
  • Stay updated on the latest technological advancements in video production and recommend upgrades or improvements to enhance workflow efficiency to Film & Television faculty.
  • Event/Conference/Promotional Support:
  • Provide technical, logistical, & planning support for Communication Department-hosted conferences such as Music City Cinema Conference, TNU Film Festival, TNT, comprehensive departmental film projects, camps, & others.
  • Staff, coordinate, and manage Film & Television student assistants for assigned events and conferences.
  • Produce initiatives as assigned to support and promote Film & Television program (podcasts, short films, social media, etc.)
  • Teaching and Training
  • Provide instruction and/or training in cinematography, editing, lighting, audio, and system/gear usage.
  • Potentially teach courses in assigned Film & Television and/or Communication Studies program.
  • Potentially assist in advising Film & Television majors (as assigned)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Film and Television, Broadcasting, Engineering, Communication or a related field.
  • Proven experience in video production, equipment management, or facilities management, preferably in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Knowledge of video production equipment, software, and industry best practices, including 6K and 4K workflows as well as Canon, Black Magic, and RED camera operation.
  • Proficient in computer software and tools relevant to video editing, scheduling, and inventory management such as Cheqroom, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, ProTools, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to resolving issues.
  • Curiosity and a strong passion for learning.
